Weekend: Friday to Monday

Take the ferry from Lauwersoog on Friday and you'll already be on the island in the early afternoon. Three nights are enough to truly unwind: a beach walk on Friday evening, a bike ride past the lighthouse on Saturday, and a long breakfast on Sunday. On Monday you sail back refreshed.

Midweek: Monday to Friday

A midweek stay is perfect if you want things quiet. The island is calmer on weekdays, especially outside school holidays. You'll have four nights to explore Schiermonnikoog at your own pace: the Westerplas, the Kobbeduinen dunes, the bunker museum, a guided mudflat walk.

A sample itinerary

Day 1: arrive, hire bikes, pick up groceries in the village and take a first walk to the beach, 450 metres from the apartment. Day 2: the bike route from the Badweg through the forest, past the Westerplas and the lighthouse. Day 3: beach, reading, and dinner out in the village in the evening. Day 4: mudflat walking or birdwatching on the salt marsh.
